FLUORESCENT, PHOSPHO, RETRO? KEZAKO

Some colors catch the eye more than others. They shout “look at me!”, like the fluorescent yellow of safety vests or the orange of traffic cones. But did you know that this effect does not only come from the color of these objects?

As motorcyclists you are more vulnerable than other vehicles, and you generally lack visibility - especially at night or in bad weather. For your safety, it is all the more important to make yourself highly visible. Why not use additional visibility technologies to be seen? These can complete the lighting equipment (headlights, LEDs, etc.) already present on the motorcycles. Phosphorescent, Fluorescent, Retro-reflective: what is the difference between these technologies, and in which situations should they be preferred? We take stock!

What is phosphorescent?

The phenomenon of phosphorescence or more commonly called phosphorescence, is a term used to speak of the process during which certain materials absorb light in order to retransmit it in the form of radiation for a long period of time.

The word "phosphorescence" is an extension of the word phosphorus, a material that has the property of glowing in the dark.

Small technical information: the quality of phosphorescence will depend on the level of excitation of the molecules. The duration of emission will depend on the quality of the light absorbed.

Today, this material is very little used in the manufacture of security products. It is found in certain accessories, gadgets, children's toys and most often in decorations such as phosphorescent paints, bedside lamps, bracelets, phone cases, etc.

The decorative touch unsuitable for your travels

These phosphorescent objects have the ability to capture, absorb daylight to restore it at night, you should know that the light emitted is very soft and is not visible from a great distance. It is therefore not at all suitable for signaling and night traffic.

What about fluorescent?

Fluorescence is very often confused with phosphorescence. Yet these two technologies are quite different. Fluorescent materials absorb light to re-emit it immediately. In itself, when the material is subjected to the action of radiation, it will directly produce an emission of light.

You can see an impression of shine with the rays of the sun, which react with the fluorescent colors. Indeed, this brilliance makes it possible to increase visibility during the day, in bad weather or even at the start of the evening when the sun is still present.

The fluo: ally of the road during the day in all weathers

Fluorescent is very bright when exposed to daylight or headlights, making it an immediate eye-catcher. If this technology seems to be ideal, at night it loses all its interest because it only makes you visible over a distance of 30 meters. This distance is clearly insufficient to allow a driver to adapt his trajectory and anticipate on the road.

Retro-reflective technology

Retro-reflective devices are intended to signal objects, vehicles and people at night at great distances. This technology is generally used in several types of accessories: the gray bands of yellow safety vests, road signs, reflectors, yellow self-adhesive bands at the back of buses, etc.

Contrary to the mirror which returns the light randomly, the retro-reflecting surfaces return the light towards the source which sends this light.

Your unstoppable asset for driving at night

During the night, the light emitted by car headlights on a retro-reflective material is returned directly to the driver. If it is perfect to make you visible at night at more than 100 meters, it is practically invisible during the day.

Virtually invisible by day, the retro-reflective technology is perfect for making you visible at night from over 100 meters away. The light emitted by headlights on this material is directly returned to the driver. At night, it's the material that makes you most visible on the roads.

VFLUO has chosen the most effective technologies for you to guarantee excellent visibility.

We want to offer you the best visibility and therefore the best safety for motorcyclists. VFLUO reflective products are very easy to use and offer 360° visibility in addition to the various vehicle lights. In addition to using the best technologies, we aim to develop products that are aesthetic, inexpensive and above all effective. After several experiments and tests, we made the choice to use these two technologies which have the best qualities in our eyes.
