MOTORCYCLE ECO-DRIVING

We have been trying to reduce CO2 consumption in general for several years now. Road regulations are becoming increasingly strict and have set themselves the objective of reducing CO2 emissions from means of transport. We can cite a good example with the technical control of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and motorized quadricycles which should become compulsory from October 1, 2022.

If we reason in this sense, motorcycles will soon have to follow the same standards as other vehicles.

VFLUO anticipates this by advising you on the interesting practices to adopt for good eco-driving on a motorcycle:

First of all, you should know that the way you drive is very important and impactful, heavy throttle is unfortunately not recommended... This is why we advise you to maintain a constant speed and accelerate gradually . It may be that at certain times you are obliged to put a boost on the accelerator, because yes, it can avoid fears or even accidents, but you must still try to reduce them to the useful and essential. ..

When starting, it is better to let the engine warm up before hitting the road, especially when the temperatures are low, usually a few minutes are enough.

It is preferable to carry out the gear changes without going too high in the revs, too slow a change causes real pollution and if the change is winded, it's even worse!

It is very important to respect safety distances, avoid sudden acceleration and braking which are very polluting . Smooth driving at a constant speed allows you overall to reduce wear and tear on the mechanical components of your motorcycle and achieve, on average, a fuel saving of 15% !

In addition, we can add to this list the fact of switching off the ignition during a stoppage lasting more than one minute. If you know, for example, that a red light lasts long enough, you can switch off the ignition or, for example, when stopping to chat with a friend.

The tires ! They are of great importance for good eco-driving . If your motorcycle's tires are worn, over or under inflated then fuel consumption will be higher. It is advisable to frequently check the pressure of your tires as well as their condition. If your tires are too worn, it is obviously highly recommended to change them, you can opt for eco-tires because yes, now you know about eco-tires thanks to our article!

We move on to the excessive use of accessories. Our motorcycles are often over-equipped with electronic accessories connected to the motorcycle which suck up the kinetic force produced by the engine and therefore consume more fuel than normal use.

We can therefore limit ourselves to the use of a classic GPS as the one and only accessory if it is really necessary.

Non-electronic accessories can also have an impact on eco-driving. Suitcases, side bags or even trailers alter the aerodynamics and lead to an increase in fuel consumption . These motorcycle accessories are very practical and improve comfort on a motorcycle during a trip or road-trip. However, for trips where they are not necessary, it is advisable to remove them.

As with cars, new technologies and new models are being developed to better respect the environment. Suzuki, Honda or even Furion have been working on hybrid motorcycles for some time. Marketing is not yet announced but it should be soon. In the next few years, will we have 100% electric motorcycles?

Finally, let's talk about fashion! On a motorcycle, if you want to be a real eco-driver, you wear close-fitting clothes to guarantee a smoother, more comfortable and above all more economical journey.
